'A Horse called Polo' textile sculpture of a horse
'A Horse called Polo' textile sculpture of a horse
It’s a rare thing to see one of my textile works online as I usually make them to commission for collectors, however I wanted to challenge myself to sculpting an animal with textiles that normally has a short coat (not like the shaggy dogs I make ) and I love the result.
This Pony has a strong wire armature which I then built up to make the musculature and finish with its top coat of vintage silk fabrics. It feels firm to the touch , not soft with stuffing. The silk fabrics fray very delicately which suits the piece, the ‘hogged’ mane is a zip and I wanted to keep the tail sculptural, (not long and flowing), so it is tied up in Polo Pony fashion.
The name also comes from the wonderful pattern on the silk that made up its right eye, reminiscent of a particular mint sweet!
It is 45cm H x 50cm L x 16cm W. obviously for indoor display
