The Hyena at Fortnum & Mason

At the same time as running three courses this year, I also had a really exciting commission to complete. A Hyena for Fortnum & Mason , part of a series of animals by different artists all using waste generated by the store itself, an ultimate recycle. My Hyena was to be made from their old livery uniforms, kitchen tea towels and returned ‘bags for life’.

Those of you who have signed up to my ‘Infrequent email’ have been following the process as it has evolved. I will write in more depth about the making of the Hyena and techniques in the next email (so sign up if you’d like to hear more) The Hyena and all the rest of the window displays will be there until the end of October, because then the Xmas season begins!

Here’s the beast in my garden just before I had to wrap her up and say goodbye, she was quite a presence in my workspace

It was a very challenging piece to make but I enjoyed every minute and hope to get more exciting commissions like this in the future
